Del.icio.us

http://del.icio.us

1. Del.icio.us is a social bookmarking system where users mark pages that they find relevant and/or useful for themselves or others. This collection of links is then displayed on the user's personal webpage to go back to, search, edit, or show to others.

2. Who uses Del.icio.us?
Almost anyone and everyone

3. Advantages

  • Offers both open and suggestive tagging
    • suggestive tagging allows for the more rapid creation of folksonomies
  • Can easily group pages/sources into collections of groups by their tags
*Pages can have multiple tags and therefore multiple relationships
  • Users can see what others have tagged as similar and find new resources easily
  • tagging interface is REALLY good

4. Disadvantages

  • Users may be prone to fit their own classifications into the "best fit" of already existing folksonomies
  • Huge lists of tags can accumulate making the system more cluttered over time if users are not careful in their tags
