Comments about the Homework Reading
Comments about the "tours" of virtual environments
- the Cancerland experiences is teaching
- it's time based, like visiting a museum
- replicates a discovery
- a restriction/limitation is would all people go through the same stages at the same time.
- felt like learning something
- even without guidance of the host there's learning opportunity - like a headset guided tour
-
Guided questions
1)Can immersive environments be used as a pedagogical tool?
- Other uses: tours to take classes on.
- Possible for mock-ups, fly through, for architecture
- It would be interesting if Google Earth (street view) were merged with second life to see what kind of a 'virtual' reality might be created.
-
In school, students could be taken through an experience (like cancer) things that are awkward or painful to talk about may be easier to approach in this environment.
We'll post some readings - Harraway + something about post humanism.
2) What kinds of research methods and/or methodologies are good for considering immersive environments for pedagogy?
