*LinkedIn is a social networking tool, with most members working in business and commerce professions.LinkedIn allows members to develop contacts through networking of "connections". These connections can be direct colleagues or networked through "connections of your connections" (called two degree).

You can use LinkedIn to:

  • Develop a list of known and trusted contacts
  • Search for jobs and business opportunities
  • Recommend (or be recommended by) members to others in your (their)network

Who is on LinkedIn?

  • Mostly those involved in business who wish to maintain and develop a professional social network.

Advantages

  • Enables networking with new members through common members
  • Can connect with other members based on work history and professional background

Disadvantages

  • Focus on business community; not for everyone
  • Non-members can search and view member profiles; possible privacy issue
