Slideshare
is a utility for sharing, viewing and storing slide shows.
You can use Slideshare to:
- Share and contribute slideshows with the entire slideshare community
- Download or view contributed slideshows
- Participate in slideshare networks indexed to topic of interest (ie. UX, Web2.0, Second Life)
- Can "zing" particular slideshows that are aggregated as recommender system for social navigation
- Tagging of slideshows for member generated classification system
Who is on Slideshare?
- Since it is still a beta application, most of the early adopters tend to be tech types, as measured by the content of the slideshows.
Advantages
- Connects members through interests in sharing and distribution of visual media
- Multiple modes of interaction; sharing, joining groups, pings, comments
- MySlidespace for saving of slideshows, contacts, uploads and messaging
Disadvantages
- Slideshow is missing creator's "voice"; transcript needs to include creator comments
- Bias towards tech crowd as content not for everyone, starting to branch out to include photo essays, humour slides
