Slideshare is a utility for sharing, viewing and storing slide shows.

You can use Slideshare to:

  • Share and contribute slideshows with the entire slideshare community
  • Download or view contributed slideshows
  • Participate in slideshare networks indexed to topic of interest (ie. UX, Web2.0, Second Life)
  • Can "zing" particular slideshows that are aggregated as recommender system for social navigation
  • Tagging of slideshows for member generated classification system

Who is on Slideshare?

  • Since it is still a beta application, most of the early adopters tend to be tech types, as measured by the content of the slideshows.

Advantages

  • Connects members through interests in sharing and distribution of visual media
  • Multiple modes of interaction; sharing, joining groups, pings, comments
  • MySlidespace for saving of slideshows, contacts, uploads and messaging

Disadvantages

  • Slideshow is missing creator's "voice"; transcript needs to include creator comments
  • Bias towards tech crowd as content not for everyone, starting to branch out to include photo essays, humour slides
