2007 RA

Course name:

KMD2002: Technologies for Knowledge Media
KMD2003: Knowledge Media & Learning

2007 course topic:

KMD2002: Emotional Interfaces
KMD2003: Knowledge media for knowledge communities

Discussion about topic:

Clarification of the topic and what it meant to students
I think more discussion about the topic would help students situate their thinking in terms of what could be done and what were the opportunities.

Link to KMDI:

2003 explicitly uses the terminology-- eg. knowledge media, knowledge community-- however, I think students sometimes are confused and sometimes they do not attempt to clear the confusion.
2002 loosely linked to the program at a terminology level.

Students characteristics

2003 more diverse, 2007 class is on a different tech level comparing to 2006 and it is affecting the way the think about possible topics, activities, and the link to learning is sometimes missed.
2004 more geared toward engineering and FIS, students are more techie

Students involvement:

2003 discussion based; little lecture; students are almost at the same level of the instructor in terms of making decisions and leading the discussions. Though the level of engagement differs from class to class. Students can define and negotiate learning goals.
2002 the first sessions the instructor had a more dominant role. The class is more structure.

Class online community:

2003 explicit emphasis on an ongoing, tight-knit online community
2002 less emphasis on an ongoing community (I've started talking to students to get the ball rolling)
