Comment: Migrated to Confluence 4.0

The widget will fundamentally allow a "student" using a handheld device to fill out a set form, which will then get uploaded to a database.

  • Can be used either on or offline
    • When offline the widget stores the data until online then sends the packets to the server
  • Can add geotags (GPS)
  • Can attach photos
  • Can set tags or choose from a group taxonomy/folksonomy
  • Can access all the shared data when online in realitime
    • Can get updates of other users activities
    • Can buffer a reasonable about of the data for when wifi isn't available

Possible pre-built services that can do some of what we're looking for:
Enlace Cards: is a software tool for authoring models of forms and creating instances of them, such as observations, description cards or questionnaires. It also provides operations for the user to fill these models of forms interactively. it might be a good starting point as it has a lot of the functionality (at least to begin with)... I think we'll have to tweak it though

Other Functionality (non-data)

  • Flinging
    • Using gestures to denote actions
      • Fling out to send data
      • Shake handheld share data
      • Others ???
  • Scanning
    • Using barcodes or something to that effect to get/transmit data (I have some info on this that I need to dig up and I'll put it on here too)
    • One example http://www.biggu.com/ - Android's barcode shopping helper
    • http://qrcode.kaywa.com/This is one of the global innovators with barcodes - their service is free and the website seems really easy to use
    • http://semacode.com/ this company seems to have changed their focus in recent months and has now become a social profile exchange network through barcodes... might be interesting as a data exchange example
    • Another example this one seems to be pushing broader coding functionality... including "trigger menu events, download content, lead you to a website, or create a contact or calendar entry in your phone"

Nameo A business card transferring system - might be useful as an idea for swaping/sharing info (I thought it had shake - as in motion - functionality but I'm not as sure now)

Collage A photo collage/sharing program - again haven't had a chance to try it yet but thought the photo mash-up might be useful
Panoramio A google maps and photo sharing with tagging mashup http://www.panoramio.com/

Wikitude - A GPS + GoogleEarth + social tagging software that brings information based augmented reality on your mobile device... pretty cool http://www.wikitude.org/
